Welcome to Eminence News, our quarterly newsletter!
Eminence is busy with preparations for the upcoming holiday season. Our Organic farmers are harvesting regional plums and delicious fruit ingredients for our holiday Sugar Plum and Spice special that introduces the new tantalizing treatments for face, body hands and and feet!
KEEPING YOUR COOL Beating the effects of the summer heat can be achieved with this pair from Eminence Organics Skin Care. The Parsley and Cucumber Treatment when mixed with oxidizing talc, tea, juice or sparkling water works as a treatment masque, said to oxygenate and lighten pigmented skin. It offers a lighter complexion and opens the pores for further treatment.
Meanwhile the tomato summer cream keeps the epidermis hydrated all day. The botanical ingredients can assist in minimising the harmful effects of the sun and filtering out dangerous UVC waves and burning UVB waves. It promises to increase skin elasticity and encourage Vitamin D to be processed.

Finally, a facial that doesn't involve harsh chemicals!
Vancouver Sun Newspaper : November 17, 2005, Page D13
Until recently I was not much of an advocate for professional facials. Having expensive creams and masks spread all over my face and then washed off had never proved very satisfying or effective. Then, mid-summer, a friend and colleague appeared in the newsroom lookings as though she'd either just come off a week-long romatntic romp or been frolicking in the woods earlier that day.
She had the youthful glow that cosmetic companies love to promise with their clieansers and creams, but barely ever deliver.
She had finally discovered an effective facial that didn't involve harsh chemicals or the scary-sounding micro-dermabrasion we keep hearing about.
It was a fruit pulp and paprika treatment by Vancouver-based company Eminence, which uses organic hand-picked herbs, fruits and vegetables from Hungary in this products...
As my therapist prepared the mysterious concoction of apple pulp, grape pulp, paprika, AHA and other wondrous ingredients, Nicole explained that I would likely experience heat and then a deep throbbing in my face as the treatment did its job...
I was skeptical at first glance, but upon better inspection in my bathroom mirror at home, not only did I notice a bit of that elusive glow, but the permanent crease between my eyebrows was gone and my smile lines were diminished.
Of course, after about 10 days, the lines and creases began to reappear and the rosy glow in my cheeks began to fade, but I am delighted all the same to know that there is a facial out there that actually shows results.
The treatment is available at select spas in the Greater Vancouver Area including; - Cabello Salon and Spa, Vancouver - Four Seasons Spa & Hotel, Whistler - Spa Time, Delta - Antiquity Day Spa, Port Coquitlam - Insparation Day Sp, Abbotsford - Patricia's Day Spa, Surrey - Essenza Esthetics, West Vancouver - Mackie Naturals, Mission

spa of the month | Spa Montage, Laguna Beach, California
There's a trend that's going around in spas these days. It's called "trust" and the Spa Montage offers just such a trust program, it's called "Surrender".
Spa Montage uses botanical ingredients in its treatments and products from Éminence, a handmade organic skin care line from Hungary that contains all natural ingredients.
Clients can look forward to even the small, fine touches at Spa Montage, such as thermal mineral slats from Hungary in all of the spa's whirlpools; organic seasonal offerings of fruit and tea in the spa lounges, all guests are even provided with product recommendations to take home with them. The spa provides a complete therapeutic experience as it creates ongoing relationships between guests and therapists. With a focus on holistic principles and noninvasive techniques, spa therapists are carefully trained to develop customized treatments for each guest.
Spa consultant Anne Bramham, a 25-year spa industry veteran, helped develop the treatment menu for spa Montage. Her clients have included such leading properties as Canyon Ranch in Tucson; the Greenhouse Group Day Spa chain, and various Ritz-Carlton properties.

This seasonal treatment sweetens you up with a foot, leg and hand massage using a 10-grain exfoliant (packed with crushed sunflower seeds and almonds) and a detoxifying mask made with chunks of real cherries, lemon and cinnamon. It smells so good you'll be tempted to taste it, but reach for the chocolate-covered cherries instead - they're served chair side with a light cherry spritzer. Meanwhile, your fingers and toes are pampered with a non-greasy sour cherry whip moisturizer and finished off with a juicy of at of red polish.

The Yum Factor: "The 'noses' who create new products for a fickle market are ever on the lookout for innovative ingredients - and they seem to be finding them in foods".
Attila Koronczay, in charge of international affairs for Eminence Organic Skin Care Products in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, points to ads showing a large chili pepper and the phrase, "Hottest Treatment in Town," which has helped Eminence sell its peels containing paprika. When customers can see the fresh pulp or seeds and smell the products, they make immediate associations. "For our new Carrot Vitamin Masque, 8 out of 10 people say, 'This smells just like carrot cake'" he says, "For our Sour Cherry Masque and Sour Cherry Whip Moisturizer, we get, 'This is pie filling'. Our cinnamon treatments smell like gingerbread." Eminence products are completely edible, with food comprising 90% of the products' makeup, Koronczay assures.

Recipe for Wellness: Organic food-oriented treatments bring a whole new meaning to "spa menu"
"Next was the moment of truth - the paprika mask. I'd been warned this pepper-laced concoction would be hot, but feeling adventurous, I chose it over mild rosehips."
Mix two cups of organically grown carrots, a teaspoon fresh vanilla, and 1/4-cup flaxseed oil. Place one woman with chapped skin on a European soft-pack table and liberally apply the carrot/oil mixture from neck to toe. Wrap her burrito-style in a water-inflated blanket, then let the bottom of the table sink away, so that she floats as if on a waterbed. Slow roast for twenty minutes checking periodically to ensure that she maintains optimal bliss temperature. Once she is done, rinse her and massage two parts honeydew and one part vanilla lotion, over her entire body, gently working out any remaining muscle tension. Cover her with soft robe and slippers and serve warm and pampered.
The Aria Spa & Club at the Vail Cascade Resort offers this recipe for achieving nirvana. And it works, my skin became soft and rehydrated after being exposed to the dry, thin air of Colorado's Rocky Mountains. The Carrot Vitamin Wrap is just one of Aria's organic treatments-each using the all-natural Eminence skincare line. These treatments reflect the new trend of spa products made from organically grown herbs and foods rather than synthetic ingredients.
Why food? Many fruits and vegetables contain phytochemicals and enzymes that act gently, but effectively on the skin. For instance, citrus fruits contain acids similar to the popular exfoliant glycolic acid, plus they contain vitamin C, which fights free radicals, reducing signs of aging. Cherries are another source of natural glycolic acids, and pumpkin enzymes remove dead skin cells. Since skin absorbs much of what you put on it, it's also important for products to be made from organic ingredients so you're not putting pesticide residues on your face or body.
After my wrap, I indulged in Aria's Organic Facial also from Eminence. I'm the type of person, whose normal daily skincare regimen consists of two steps, cleansing and moisturizing. Consequently, a professional facial seems like a lavish banquet, with course after course of delicacies for my face. Heather, my esthetician, started the treatment with a eucalyptus cleanser, which left my skin clean and tingly. This was followed by a soothing parsley-cucumber mask, which made my face cool as, well, a cucumber. The smell of fresh, creamy veggies on my face made me want to smear this mask on a bagel and eat it.
Next was the moment of truth - the paprika mask. I'd been warned this pepper-laced concoction would be hot, but feeling adventurous, I chose it over mild rosehips. A moment after Heather brushed on the paprika mix, I could feel the spicy burn. My face flushed like I'd eaten a habañero. As circulation raced to my skin, flushing out wastes and toxins and revitalizing my complexion, I went from the verge of discomfort to rejuvenation. To my relief, the paprika didn't stay on long and the next course consisted of a hydrating, revitalizing pumpkin-orange mask. Heather explained that enzymes in the pumpkin dissolve dead skin cells, resulting in a gently exfoliation. This mask smelled good enough to eat, and I realized that while my face and décolletage were now glowing, I was hungry.

Taste of Hungary Packs Punch Women's Wear Daily, March 14 2003, Page 8
One regimen - imported from Hungary - is standing apart from the pack by requiring a true hands-on approach from aestheticians. Éminence Organic Skin Care, a just-add-water treatment line comprised mostly of formulas in concentrate form, is finding its way into a handful of spas across the country. Depending on skin type, Éminence suggests diluting formulas with herbal teas, juices or water at varying temperatures.
One of Éminence's more popular spa treatments, according the Anna Gleichauf, the front-desk retail manager for Completely Bare Spa in Manhattan, is the Paprika Facial. It starts with an apple-based alpha-hydroxy mask, followed by a paprika mask, which draws blood to the surface of the skin, Gleichauf said. The Paprika Facial at Completely Bare is not available for consumer consumption "since it is such a strong treatment."
Éminence's pull-no-punches treatment approach is also what appealed to Christine Borkenhagen, Splash spa manager, at the Sports Club / LA - New York. "I wanted an organic line that was more aggressive. Many organic lines are really gentle and don't give the results a user wants to see," Borkenhagen said.
Éminence first emerged in the U.S. four years ago. Now, the company's products are used and sold in a smattering of U.S. locations, such as the Golden Door Spa in Puerto Rico, the Boca Raton Resort & Hotel and select Ritz-Carlton hotels. In Manhattan, Éminence is used and sold at Tracie Martyn Salon, Completely Bare Spa and Splash at the Sports Club / LA - New York. Internationally, Éminence is sold in Canada, the United Arab Emirates, the Czech Republic, the Ukraine, Poland, Germany and Hungary.
This luscious service is a dessert lover's dream. Smelling of freshly baked carrot cake - including all that tasty cream-cheese icing - the Carrot Vitamin Wrap titillates the senses while moisturizing and protecting the skin. This inspired service uses the Éminence Carrot Vitamin Masque, a product that offers a healthy dose of antioxidant vitamins and hydrating properties, which are abundant in its organic carrot oil and pulp.

Exclusive Éminence Facial at The Sports Club / LA Splash
The Exclusive Éminence Facial, a service utilizing organic Hungarian herbs and fruits to bring a one-of-a-kind glow to the skin. Éminence is a fascinating line, including products like a Lemon Cleanser and Wild Plum Tonique, not to mention the scrumptious Carrot Vitamin Masque (my personal favorite.)
One of the highlights of this facial is the use of a paprika-based cream (Paprika Herbal Treatment) that actually draws blood to the surface of the skin, rejuvenating tired flesh and combating clogged pores. I actually felt a flush rise from my neck and into my cheeks, and when I left Splash that day, my skin had a luminous glow.
Being swept off to Hungary for an hour of organic facial pampering and relaxation… that's what I'd call a nice deviation from your typical facial... the feel and focus of the Exclusive Éminence Facial is of lying peacefully in a cottage somewhere in Hungary while a wise woman mixes organic treatments for your skin.
